Dipo Dina (Jnr), the last child of the slain politician, Otunba Dipo Dina, has expressed sadness at the way his father was killed, more so that it fell on his birthday. The younger Dina, a Junior Secondary School 3 student of International School, University of Lagos, reportedly passed out on hearing the news of his father’s gruesome murder. A close friend of the Dinas, told our correspondent that the news of the death of the politician shook the school, as the deceased was the chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school. According to a member of the PTA of ISL, the JSS3 student had prepared to meet friends and relations on that day as it was his birthday, as the late Dina was not one to toy with his children’s birthdays. “Otunba would not play with his children’s birthday. He celebrated it for them, and the timing of his death was most painful as the son felt the pain more than anyone elseâ€. When our correspondent visited ISL, Akoka, where the Dinas school, none of them was in school as they were still mourning the demise of their father who was described in superlatives by the students in sight. In the condolence register at the entrance of the principal’s office at the school, a member of the PTA who worked closely with the late politician when he was the Chairman, Ogun State Bulk Purchase Corporation, Mrs. A.O. Adesanya, said; “Your death is a rude shock and very untimely. You have fought a good fight not as a coward but courageously. Your tenure as the Chairman of Ogun State Bulk Purchase Board still lives fresh in my memory. You are selfless and God fearing. Though you are no more, your memory lingers on.†The school Principal, Dr. S.A. Oladipo, who was seen returning in company with other members of staff of the school from a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, wore a mournful look. Dr. Oladipo, who was shocked by the murder of the Action Congress(AC) chieftain, lamented the violent killing of the late PTA chairman, describing him as a very caring friend, resourceful, lover of children and education. The late Otunba Dina became the chairman of the PTA of the ISL in November 22, 2008 and his tenure, according to the principal, recorded tremendous achievements in terms of development, adding that the school would miss him so much. However, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has assured that AC and the entire democrats wouldn’t give up in their drive to restore democracy in the country. The governor who made this known during a condolence visit to the family of the late politician at his Dolphin Estate residence said the death was painful. “This is a very painful and tragic separation. We are truly short of words to express the pain of this violent departure. We know, however, that you will not expect us to give up. Your struggle is over, but remain assured that we will not give up until the Nigeria you envisaged is achieved and the people you dearly wished to serve are pacified and prospered,†Fashola wrote in his condolence register. Meanwhile, the family has announced that the burial of the late AC governorship candidate in the 2007 elections in Ogun State will hold from February 8-10 both in Lagos and Ijebu Ode.
